The memory of the civil war and hostility is still vivid to them passing down from their parents.  They are  loyal to the DDP to the bitter end.  However, the younger generations tend to vote for their pocket. They don't vote for DDP.  They vote moderates and KMT.  Politically Taiwan's government will change alot in a decade or two, when the younger generation becomes older after the memories has faded out.  Taiwan is next to China. No doubt, the proximatity has a very strong influence on their thinking.
